To a Colourful Christmas!

Christmas Colour Wheel  by The Mandala Group 2017

***

This year's mandala is something a bit different, a colour wheel with a collection of summer flowers and added Christmas cheer from multi-coloured holly leaves and yin yang berries.  Cathy, Sky Dymondz, Jojo, Jenni and Shastina all contributed to this colourful mandala.

Christmas Rose Patchwork

Christmas Rose Patchwork by The Mandala Group 2016

***************************************

While this year's mandala maybe unusual as it doesn't include an outside circle edge(although if a stickler; one can be imagined outside the edge of the square),
it encapsulates the spirit of the mandala as it includes the kaleidoscopic effect as you gaze on its centre, it definitely has the movement quality, which I think is more important than the circle.

The focal point in the centre is an embroidered Christmas Rose/hellabore and the tiles around the outside contain various animals and birds, as we were trying to be ambitious this year! The snowflakes around the central tile add to the momentum of the movement in the kaleidoscope.

This year's seasonal mandala is by Mandala Group members - Cathy, FizzBW, Jenni, JoJo & Shastina.

Chirpie Robins

Chirpie Robins, a Mandala by The Mandala Group 2016

*********************************************************************************
One to celebrate our little bird so often used as an emblem of Christmas - the Christmas Robin. Hear them singing, tweeting and chirping all winter long. This year's piece is also a mixed media party!

Angels Spinning...

Angels Spin Around by The Mandala Group -Cathy, FizzBW, Jenni, Jo Jo & Shastina,2014
This year's seasonal mandala is another one with angels. This time they encircle a group of stars and each has its own decoration.  The light catches the mandala in places and parts of the stars light up, as it has been made in relief using wooden angels and then photographed with a little help from a friend.  The wooden angels were painted using acrylic ink and decorations added, including feathers that we've up-cycled.  The dove on the left hand side in particular shines out from the mandala as its emblem of peace.

Fruity

Fruity, by The Mandala Group 2014

A note from Cathy about Fruity

'This mandala is a design to uplift the spirit with its happy colours and its simplicity.  Colours certainly do have this effect on me (and I think most people).
It also reminds me of sunshine and spring and childhood elation at the coming
of spring and holidays!'   ~ Cathy

Christmas 2013, Cathy's Idea!

Angels Christmas Mandala in Colour,
copyright The Mandala Group 2013,
 (with poem by John Milton)

Here is a mandala for Christmas using Cathy's ideas as a beginning.

This Mandala by Jenni,
Jo Jo, Cathy & Shastina is a bit of an ambitious one involving Angels & musical instruments.  As usual stars are present & the wreath around the edge is a new idea.

The part of a poem was added later and is taken from At a solemn Music by John Milton, if you click the link below you can see the whole poem.

The colour version (left) is the original one that most of the group preferred & the alternative version(below), the one I prefer, is in more muted tones of sepia & is more subtle somehow & shows  the mandala in a gentler light...

Partridges & Pears

Partridge & Pears, copyright The Mandala Group 2012

It's time to unveil this year's mandala for Christmas, including the usual stars...
Instead of a general Christmas 'free for all', we have decided this year to have a specific theme.  So we chose to use the first line of a well known Christmas tune as inspiration and you'll almost certainly have guessed by now, it's the first line belonging to 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' tune.

"On the first day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree"

In the centre of the mandala perches a partridge drawn by Jo Jo.  Below there are four more partridges, not however, in a pear tree ~ are they foraging for something on the ground?

Spring & Summery Mandala

A Mandala for Spring Days and Summery Ways, Copyright Anna and Shastina, The Mandala Group, 2006

A good friend Anna, helped me with this mandala. She beautifully created Summery Ways and I was responsible for the Spring Days part. It was made in segments and then placed together.

Indian Summer Lotus Petals

Indian Summer, Copyright Sky Dymondz, Jenni and Shastina of the Mandala Group, 2012

Sky Dymondz chose the colours and an Indian theme for this mandala.  The centre of Indian Summer is one little gold dot around which the rest rotates, like a memory of sun, spice and lotus petals.  The colours evoke the saris of Indian ladies, floating round the middle.

A mandala to wish a Happy Christmas to all!
This year's Christmas design is reminiscent of the stained glass you get in English and Welsh cathedrals.

Tropical Day Mandala

Tropical Day Mandala, Copyright The Mandala Group April 2011

The Mandala Group would like to share their newest joint mandala on Mandalas in Memories.  It is the first of many offerings!

We made Tropical Day Mandala at a group meeting early in the year.  It's one most of us did as one group member was unable to be with us, so it's only been done by five of us, as there are six of us in the group in total.

Tropical Day mandala is so called as the palm trees and sunshine are intertwining with pinks and little bits of blue. And all in a colour scheme of warming colours,  upon the lotus flowers making patterns within themselves. The effects together make you think of a tropical beach somewhere...
